Write About Your First Picture; Did You Love Or Hate It?

Share your first picture and the story behind it

My first picture — by Charlie Naebeck

My first photograph was at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

My Grandmother gave me my first camera at age ten, and my family went on vacation.

I remember watching the parade on Main Street, the USA, in Disney with awe and wonder. I heard the people clapping and cheering as the characters waved. It smelled like cotton candy and sun tan lotion.

I wondered if anyone actually consumed suntan lotion in their cotton candy. People like to bathe in that stuff.

I saw Winnie the Pooh parade down Main Street. I unpacked my camera from my backpack and click it happened. Whinnie looked so happy. I had to document the moment. My family was happy too, and it was a good day.

Looking back at this photograph, it is not the most sound image, but it brings back the memory as if it were yesterday.

Photographs have the power to transcend us to a place and time.

Photographs can remember.

And photographs are something that feeds the soul.

Your turn

As photographers, we all have that moment where we push the button to make magic for the first time.

We often feel excitement and awe throughout our entire being when we learn that we can capture life. And it is fun!

We will share new weekly prompts here on Share a Picture to inspire and encourage others.

This week is: Share your first picture and to write about it.

If you don’t have your first picture, no worries.

Share a photo you love that reminds you of the first time you pushed the shutter to make your first photograph.

Here are some questions to get you going:

What did it feel like to capture the image?

What was the first image?

Did you learn something from your first image?

Did it inspire you to photograph something else?

What did you do with the image?

What were the settings? What camera? What lens?

Who were you with?

What did it smell like on the day you made the image?

What did you hear?

Where were you?

What inspired you to make this image?

Please feel free to be as creative as you like with your writing.

When you finish, please tag “shareapicture” when you submit.
