Charlie Naebeck | Here's What I'm Building Today
Hey, I’m Charlie.

Here’s what I’m building today.

I build things to help you automate your life, make business easier, and get back some of your time.

I also do weird experiments and chase whatever else I cannot stop thinking about. Oh yeah—I have a creative side too. I make music, do photography, have albums out, and have written seven books.

Then I show you what works, what does not, and how you can try it yourself.

What I’m building right now

This changes a lot.

Some days it is software. Some days it is a song, an old guitar, a camera, a website, or an idea that followed me home and refused to leave.

Here are a few things you are likely to catch me working on.

Currently making

A follow-up system that remembers people when I forget.

Forms, texts, email, booking, and all the little pieces that keep a good lead from quietly disappearing while somebody is busy doing actual work.

The goal: make the business easier to run without making it feel like a robot runs it. See How It Turns Out
On the workbench

Making an old guitar sound like itself again.

Swapping parts, listening closely, trying the questionable idea anyway, and deciding whether raw and imperfect sounds better than clean and polite.

There will probably be loud guitar noises and at least one opinion nobody asked for. Follow the Build
Taking shape

Writing a song before I have time to talk myself out of it.

Drums first. Bass next. Voice where it belongs. Then finding just enough guitar to make the whole thing hit without burying the story.

Simple ideas usually win. The trick is leaving them alone long enough to finish them. Hear What Happens
Out in the world

Finding one honest story and making a photograph around it.

A person, a place, an old camera, a conversation, and enough patience to notice what is actually happening instead of forcing something impressive.

Thirty-plus years later, I am still interested in the moment right before somebody performs for the camera. Come Along
Probably overthinking

Turning a random idea into something people can actually use.

It might become a page, a class, a Blueprint, an event, a video, or a completely different project by the time I am finished with it.

I do not always know what the thing is at the beginning. That is why I build it. See What It Becomes
A little about me

I have never really done just one thing.

I grew up on a Michigan farm where there was always something to fix, move, build, clear, or figure out. That probably explains a lot.

Since then, life has taken me through technology, photography, classrooms, New York City, Los Angeles, Italy, Colombia, business, music, writing, teaching, and more than a few complete rebuilds.

The common thread is simple: I like solving problems, making things, telling stories, and helping people use technology without letting it take over their lives.

Built from the farm Work with what you have. Learn by doing. Fix what breaks.
Shaped by the road Cameras, classrooms, cities, countries, businesses, and a lot of different chapters.
Focused on what is next Build useful things. Make meaningful work. Keep moving forward.
So what can you do here?

You have three options.

Option Three

Make me do it.

You have things to do, places to go, people to see, and you do not want to spend a Saturday yelling at software.

Fair enough. Email me and hire me to build it for you.

Other things I do

People usually think I do one thing.

I have lived a lot of different lives. Right now, part of the goal is getting back to my roots and making more room for the work I have always cared about.

Music

Loud guitars. New songs. Another album.

I am writing, recording, playing loud guitars, digging into old gear, and building the next chapter of my music one song at a time.

Listen on Spotify
Photography

Portraits, stories, cameras, and adventure.

I make portraits, tell stories, love old cameras, chase new ideas, and have spent more than three decades pointing cameras at people and places.
